August Ipsy Glam Blag | 2014

It is that time of the month where my Ipsy Glam Bag pops into my mailbox. I always look forward to receiving my Ipsy bag, as I have never been disappointed with the contents. This month, I have enjoyed the items I received. In all honesty, I was slightly disappointed with the amount of products I received, however, I enjoyed the products overall.

I have been using the Jersey Shore Sun Mongongo Lip Conditioner. Theoretically, this lip balm has anti-aging properties. I have found it to be moisturizing and smell delicious. Next up, I received a sample of the Urban Decay Perversion Mascara. As someone with far too many mascaras, this immediately went into my collection of unused mascaras to use in the future; I have heard that this one is good though! I was thrilled to see the eyeshadow sample by J. Cat Beauty. Although I've never heard of the brand, I love eyeshadow samples and the color is gorgeous. This shadow will be a great transition shade from summer to fall. Next up, I got a Manna Kadar Cosmetics Sheer Glo. This product is supposed to be mixed with your foundation to give you an incandescent glow. I haven't tried product, as I have similar products, but I do intend to try it in the future. Lastly, I received the Cali Cosmetics Evulcano Body Lotion. This was the first product I tried, as it suggested that it was hydrating and had antioxidant benefits (due to the volcanic minerals in the lotion). I was curious and found it to be moisturizing but not overly sticky. I promptly lost the lotion sample after using it and therefore, it is not pictured above.

Overall, I enjoyed my Ipsy Glam Bag this month My only complaint is the size of the samples, as it was slightly upsetting to see the small amount of products when opening the makeup bag. I also really like the bag they chose this month. It is cute for summer and waterproof (always a summer necessity!).

What did you get in your Ipsy Glam Bag?

Over this summer, the new book #GIRLBOSS, has caught my attention. I recently picked it up to see what all the fuss was about. So far, I can truly say that I adore the book. This book was written by Sophia Amoruso. Sophia is the founder and CEO of Nasty Gal. Nasty Gal is an online clothing company that is worth $100-million-plus and is based in Los Angeles, California. In this book, Sophia discusses how she got from essentially nothing to creating her own company, all before the age of 30. She goes through her past experiences and how she became a #girlboss (and how can become a #girlboss too!).

I like how down to earth Sophia is, in her writing. She is humble and relatable. She teaches you what worked for her and her advice for you to be successful in your business. Personally, I am not thinking of starting a business any time soon but her advice can be used in any area of work. Or I may want to be involved with the business world later on in life. Two thumbs up!

Have you read this book? What are your thoughts?

Tips for Successfully Working at Home

In my place of work, I share an office with four other ladies. The downside is that we are all on the phone frequently, therefore, we began working from home on various days of the week. Working from home has definite advantages: you get to skip commute traffic and you can cook a fresh meal whenever you'd like. However, there are a lot of challenges that come with working at home and may hinder productivity. As a gal who works at home frequently, here are my tips to you!

1. Set a schedule My work schedule is very flexible (fortunately), however, that means I end up working a lot at night and on weekends. It's part of my responsibility to set a schedule to maximize efficiency and still have a life. I have learned that I need to set up a schedule and keep a to-do list in order to have a productive day. I aim to wake up around the same time every day. Even if you have a flexible schedule, it helps to set an alarm and wake up roughly around the same time every day. I also plan out what I want to accomplish that day (work and otherwise). How much work should I tackle today? Am I planning to meet a friend for dinner or cook at home? When will I go to the gym? What time will I eat lunch? What household chores do I need to complete today?

2. Have a clean work space I cannot stress this enough. It is so important to me to have plenty of clean space on my desk. I have a great number of folders and papers that I need to spread out when doing my work. It also gives me peace of mind to not have clutter on my desk, which is often a problem because I have a tendency to stack books, magazines, and whatever else onto my desk.

3. Find time to exercise As we've learned from Legally Blonde, exercise gives you endorphins and endorphins make you happy. Exercise is key to a healthy and full life. I am not saying you need to run ten miles every day. I suggest that you take a walk, go for a hike, or hit the gym. It is important to do what you enjoy and what fits into your life.

4. Eat lunch away from your desk When you eat lunch at your desk, you often don't enjoy the meal and it blends in with the rest of your work day. It is crucial to take the time to eat your lunch away from your desk. Go sit at a table and take a definitive break from working.

5. Keep photos or prints on your desk I find that having a photo of my boyfriend, Joe, and I (from when we first started dating) on my desk makes me smile throughout the work day. By having a photo or print on your desk, it makes your work space more comforting and enjoyable to sit at.

6. Have essentials at your workspace I find that keeping necessary items at my desk stops me from getting up and becoming distracted in the middle of my work. I like to have a beverage (often my beverage of choice is iced hazelnut coffee) on my desk at all times. I also try to keep useful items like tissues, pens, glasses, and basic items on my desk for easy access.

I hope you've found this helpful! What are your tips for working at home successfully?

August Birchbox 2014

I was pleasantly surprised when my Birchbox arrived early this month, on the 6th or 7th. Generally, this subscription box pops into my mailbox around the middle of the month (at the earliest). If you've never heard of Birchbox, it's a monthly subscription box. This service mostly delivers "hand selected" makeup and skincare products, based off of a quiz you take when you first sign up.

I began my journey with Birchbox in the spring of 2012. My dad had seen Birchbox advertised in the San Francisco Chronicle and ordered a three-month subscription as an early birthday present. I ended up signing up for a full year after that and renewed my subscription this summer. But more stories next month...

On to the products...
Naobay Body Radiance Lotion: it claims to use olive oil and avocado to hydrate and firm skin. I haven't tried it yet but I would assume that it will be hydrating with the oils. It is a good travel-size. Amika Perk Up Dry Shampoo: I am always thrilled to receive dry shampoo samples in subscription boxes and I am a huge fan of this brand already (thanks to Birchbox). This product smells delightful and does not leave a white cast. Thumbs up!
Benefit It's Potent! Eye Cream: I was disappointed by the size of this sample (there were two, however, I've used up one). It works fine but by no means is it my favorite eye cream.
Dr. Jart+ Dis-A-Pore Beauty Balm: I have greatly enjoyed products by this brand in the past. This BB cream blends easily and produces excellent coverage (for a BB cream). It also contains SPF 30, which is something I look for in a foundation, BB cream, or tinted moisturizer. I have way too many base products so I'll pass on purchasing this right now. I am contemplating purchasing their primer though!
Noir Cosmetic Long-Wear Eyeliner: I can't find anything special about this eyeliner. It is waterproof (a summer must in my opinion) and it's enriched with Vitamin E to create a creamy texture. I like it, however, it doesn't stand out to me.

I hope you've enjoyed learning about my August Birchbox! What did you receive in your Birchbox?

Pumpkin Spice French Toast

I am fully aware that fall is not yet upon us, however, I cannot contain my excitement any longer. Fall is by far my favorite season, with leaves fluttering onto the ground, the breaking out of sweaters, and most importantly, PUMPKIN everything! As I flipped through images of pumpkin recipes on Pinterest on last night, I began craving that pumpkin goodness. I feel slightly guilty, as I should still be enjoying the sun and lovely summer weather. I decided to compromise and came up with Pumpkin Spice French Toast.

French toast is one of my favorite breakfast dishes. Simply because french toast is one of those meals that makes you feel as if you are having brunch on a Tuesday. It only takes five minutes to prepare and can be quite healthy. So please enjoy my recipe! (the pumpkin pie spice is completely optional; I understand if you're holding out for September 22nd, or at least September 1st)

Pumpkin Spice French Toast
Serves 1

2 slice of whole wheat bread
1/2 cup liquid egg whites
1 tsp ground cinnamon
1 tsp vanilla extract
1 tsp pumpkin pie spice
toppings of your choice (I topped mine with fresh raspberries and pure maple syrup)

1) Combine egg whites, cinnamon, vanilla extract, and pumpkin pie spice into a bowl.
2) Dip one slice of bread into the mixture.
3) Spray a pan with cooking spray.
4) Place on stove and turn on burner.
5) Add the slice of bread to the stove and cook until golden brown.
6) Repeat with other slice of bread.
7) Serve with toppings of choice.
8) Enjoy! [I enjoyed mine with some iced hazelnut coffee]
