Fives Favorites: Fall TV Shows

One of the things I look forward to most in the fall is the rush of television show premieres. Whether it is a brand new series or an old favorite, I am glued to my TV for several weeks. I have five current favorites; some are new and some of older. Let's go through these in alphabetical order (mainly because I cannot pick a favorite):

A to Z

From the description alone, I was drawn to this new series. A to Z is a show with a similar concept as 500 Days of Summer. The viewer is informed at the beginning of the show that this couple will date for a specific amount of time and the show will share the details of their relationship. The title of each episode is a letter of the alphabet, starting with "A" (of course) and shares a different story from the relationship. I have found the show to be cute and entertaining thus far and will continue to watch throughout this season.

How to Get Away with Murder

I was not aware of this show in the beginning. I grew interested in it after seeing the hype about it online. I quickly watched the first six episodes on On Demand (thank goodness for that option!) and was instantly hooked. I was excited to the CO from Orange is the New Black on the show, as that is one of my current favorite shows (desperately waiting for season three...). This show is about a criminal law professor and lawyer, who works closely with five students. They defend different criminals (or innocent victims) each episode, as well as one case that unfolds throughout the season. Fair warning: this show is addicting.

The Mindy Project

Mindy Kaling is my spirit animal. I adore everything about her and everything she creates. This show is on it's third season and I don't see it leaving us any time soon. Mindy Kaling created this show, in which she plays a gynecologist; this was a tribute to her mother, who passed away from cancer. This is a comedy show and pokes fun at various topics around being a single woman in New York City. If you haven't seen this show, you must check out the past couple seasons!

New Girl

Another show with a strong female lead. Zooey Deschannel plays a character named Jessica Day. Jess is a quirky, independent woman and lives with four men in an apartment in Los Angeles. This show showcases the lives of all of these individuals. The writing is clever and witty. I am always entertained when watching this program.

Selfie

I had seen ads for this new series all over the place. I watched a trailer a week or so before the premiere and decided I needed to watch it. This show is the opposite of what I originally thought, as I thought it would glorify our "selfie" culture. It looks at our society's obsession with technology and social media, as one woman is rebranding herself with the help of a coworker. By doing so, she must change the way she uses social media and must decrease her usage. It is a unique show and incredibly relevant to our time, right now. I highly recommend you check it out.
