The Power of Perfume & Favorite Fall Scent 2014

Scents seem to be one of the biggest triggers of memories for me. I associate eucalyptus with my grandpa's house and playing in the trees as a young child. Freshly baked chocolate chips cookies remind me of winter afternoons in the kitchen with my mother. When I smell a particular fragrance, I am instantly transported back to the time that I first wore it. Miss Dior Cherie brings me back to a trip to Norway when I was 18 years old. I had just graduated from high school and I was visiting my friend, Ingrid. I had met Ingrid when her father was in California for sabbatical for a year and brought his family, back when I was in the seventh grade. Ingrid and I stayed in touch and we are still friends today. This was my third trip to visit her after she had moved back. It was my first trip to Europe on my own and my first long flight all by myself. Upon entering Ingrid's bathroom, I discovered Miss Dior Cherie on her bathroom counter; it had been a gift from her mother from a trip to Paris. Throughout my stay in Oslo, I used Ingrid's perfume every single day. It represented independence and adventure. Upon starting college in September, I purchased my very own bottle of Miss Dior Cherie. It brought back those feelings I had during that three week long trip and served to also represent the independence I felt in college.

Over this past summer, I sampled various perfumes; I was on the hunt for a fall fragrance. I came across this beaut (see photo above) and knew this was the one for me. Elizabeth and James Nirvana Black is a more sophisticated scent than I normally go for, as I gravitate towards the floral or sweet scents. It is described as "an addictive blend of alluring violet, sensual sandalwood, and rich vanilla that strike the perfect balance between masculine and feminine". I feel slightly daring when I wear this fragrance. If you happen to already own Elizabeth and James Nirvana White, it pairs incredibly well with Nirvana Black; just a tip, from me to you. As we fall into fall (haha, get it?), I hope to create memories that I can smile about when sniffing this perfume a year from now.

What fragrance are you wearing this fall?
