Office-Appropriate Manicure

When it comes to nail polish, I opt for the glitter and bright colors. Unfortunately that is not always the most appropriate choice. In a formal office setting, you often need to select a nude polish. I stumbled upon this nail polish from OPI when choosing my "big girl job" interview color a couple years back.

Although I originally opted for this shade because of its subtle nature, I do find it absolutely stunning. I feel sophisticated when I paint my nails with it. I may even wear this on my wedding day (step 1: get engaged...). I do want to mention that the formula is nice but does require several coats; the photo above reflects two coats.

The bottom line is that this is a beautiful and office-appropriate nail polish. If you are looking for something to wear to an interview or big meeting, this is a great option.

Are there any other good office-appropriate nail polishes I should check out?

Basics For A Steal!

I am all about the basics when it comes to my wardrobe. My favorite pieces to wear are often the simplest ones. When it comes to basics, I am selective with the pieces I spend more on. You can find so many great sale and discounted items that you should only invest in certain clothing. Basic long sleeve shirts are fall in the category of things I don't like to spend a lot on.

Over the past year or so, I have fallen in love with the selection at Target. Their house brands frequently go on sale and if you use the Cartwheel app, you can find even more deals. The other day I popped into a Target to purchase a few items. Of course I came home with more than I really needed but these shirts were calling my name at their ridiculously low price.

I chose this periwinkle henley from Mossimo because I knew it would be a perfect lightweight shirt in the spring and summer. Although I work in an office (half the week), we dress very casually. I can throw on a long sleeve, jeans and flats and be office-appropriate.

The other two shirts are from another Target house brand: Merona. These were such a steal at $6.72 each. They were marked as being on clearance for $8.40 BUT I whipped out my Cartwheel app and scanned the barcode (such a cool feature!) only to discover that all apparel was 20% off. The Henley was originally $14.99 and was marked down to $11.99. I would assume this sale lasts through the week, although I'm not entirely sure. I highly suggest you dash over to Target!

Combatting Dry Skin This Winter

My skin has not been enjoying the dry weather recently. I've noticed a dry patch on my cheek that just does not want to go away. Although I am used to my skin drying out a bit during the winter months, this year has been significantly worse for me.

My skin has transitioned from combination to dry over the past two years. I struggled with a little bit of acne in my teenage years and my skin calmed down over my college time. As soon as I graduated, my skin began to transform again--it slowly became more and more dry. Now with winter upon us, my skin is bone dry. I have found a few products that seem to help sort things out.

This product is a life saver. It is my go-to daily moisturizer. As you can see from the much loved bottle, this product is one of my favorites. This hydrates my skin like no other moisturizer does. It also has an SPF of 30, which is essential in my morning skincare routine. I even included repurchasing this product as an exception in my 100 Day Beauty Spending Ban (which is going swimmingly by the way!). I don't leave the house without this on my face.

Nourish Organic Renewing Eye Cream

I have been reaching for this eye cream for the past month or so. It is ideal for normal to dry skin and it came to me in my December Ipsy. This product contains avocado oil, argan oil, and shea butter, which make it ultra moisturizing.

To pump some hydration back into my skin, I reach for the GLAMGLOW Thristymud Hydrating Treatment. This mask is great for getting my skin that boost it needs. I leave this mask on for 10-15 minutes before rinsing it off and applying a follow-up product.

I used to think that argan oil was only meant for hair. I was totally wrong. For the past year or so, I will occasionally pop this onto my skin after cleansing at night. Even for those with acne-prone skin, this product will work wonders. It does not feel greasy on the skin but sinks in and offers ultimate hydration.

What products do you reach for in the winter months?

Tanya Burr Lip Gloss Review

Top to Bottom: Picnic in the Park, Aphrodite, Chic

I have been lusting after the Tanya Burr Lip Glosses for some time now. In my recent swap with my good friend, Rita, I received one of these glorious glosses in the shade Chic. I soon after discovered that I could purchase these lip glosses from FeelUnique. (Fortunately this was prior to my 100 Day Beauty Spending Ban...I've been staying strong!). This website has free shipping with purchases over $15 (even to the US)--I had no trouble spending $15. The lip glosses cost $10.83, however, I purchased mine on sale for around $9/lip gloss. FeelUnique also sells the Tanya Burr Lashes and Tanya Burr Nail Polish. Sadly, the nail polish does not ship to the United States. As for the lashes, I have ordered the individual lashes and cannot wait to try them!

Tanya Burr Lip Glosses

Not only are these lip glosses affordable but they also look, feel and smell great. They glide onto the lips easily and transform from a creamy texture to a shiny wash of color. They aren't as highly pigmented as I had assumed but that does not phase me at all. I enjoy the subtly of these glosses. They add a lot of shine and are very moisturizing. They are long-wearing and appropriate for the work place. The scent is what really hooked me on this product: they smell like strawberry candies. I don't find the fragrance to be sickeningly sweet; it is just perfect. Overall I say go for these lip glosses. I cannot wait to purchase more from this range!

Do you own any Tanya Burr Lip Glosses?

Oatmeal: Three Unique Ways [Video]

In my most recent video, I show you three unique ways to prepare oatmeal. I love oatmeal during the winter but it can be time consuming and often I repeat the same recipe far too often. These three methods are unique yet incredibly simple.

Crockpot Oatmeal
Makes Two Servings

Ingredients:
1/2 cup steel cut oats
1 cup unsweetened vanilla almond milk
1 cup water
1/2 Tablespoon agave syrup
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
1/2 teaspoon chia seeds

Directions:
1) Combine all ingredients into a crockpot
2) Set the crockpot to HIGH for 1.5 hours
3) Turn off the crockpot and leave it covered overnight
4) Serve warm or cold!

Brownie Batter Overnight Oats
Makes One Serving

Ingredients:
1/4 cup oats
1/4 cup non fat plain Greek yogurt
1 Tablespoon chia seeds
1 Tablespoon unsweetened cocoa powder
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
2 Tablespoons maple syrup
1/2 cup unsweetened vanilla almond milk
Dash of salt

Directions:
1) Combine all ingredients
2) Mix thoroughly
3) Store in a Mason jar in the fridge overnight
4) Serve cold

Apple Cinnamon Instant Oatmeal
Makes Five Servings

Ingredients:
2 cups instant oatmeal
1/4 cup non fat dry milk powder (I purchased mine at Whole Foods)
1/4 cup toasted oat bran
2 Tbsp chia seeds
1/2 teaspoon salt
2 cups dried apple rings
1/4 cup sugar (or other sweetener that measures like sugar)
1 Tablespoon ground cinnamon

Directions:
1) Chop dried apples
2) Combine all ingredients
3) Mix thoroughly
4) Pour 3/4 cup of mixture into five separate baggies
5) To cook: add 1.5 cups of water to one baggies worth of mixture in a bowl; cook in the microwave for one minute

Enjoy!

Victoria's Secret Semi Annual Sale

For some reason, I can never resist the Victoria's Secret Semi Annual Sale. I have made a purchase every sale since I started high school. Even during my periods of not being as obsessed with Victoria's Secret, I still would purchase basic bras during this sale. This year I was greatly looking forward to the sale. I purchased a bunch of comfy tops last winter and hoped to score some more this year at a great price. I am very pleased with my purchases which I have used a ton in the past week.

I have already managed to get two stains on this oversized top from Pink. This is how much I love it. I have worn this around the house, at the gym, and while ruining errands. It is fantastic because it covers you backside and makes wearing leggings no big deal. It is vibrant so assumed I would only wear it at home. I was wrong. I wore it out to the gym yesterday morning. This was such a great purchase.

The softest bathrobe ever. I initially went into VS looking for a new bathrobe. I love my blue one--I've sure you've seen it in one of my morning time videos. But I wear it to death and it gets really warm during the summer. Although this new robe is still ultra fuzzy and will most likely keep me warm, it is much shorter in length. I am thoroughly enjoying this robe.

I purchased these sweatpants because I often work from home. For these occasions, I need sweatpants. It gets a little old wearing your pajamas until the middle of the afternoon (not to mention you feel like a slob). Although sweatpants aren't much better, at least I feel more like I am wearing real clothes and let's be honest...I'm not putting on a dress and heels at home so sweatpants it is.

Finally: the greatest leggings of all time. These are fleece on the inside so they keep you nice and warm. The material of these leggings is incredibly comfortable and stretchy. They are not sheer at all, which is great news for working out. I have worn them four times in the past week. It's insane. These leggings are by far the best purchase I have made in a while.

I excluded bras from this post because honestly, I think it would be a little strange to include them. I will say that now is the time to stock up!

Did you get anything from the Victoria's Secret Semi Annual Sale?

Birchbox January 2015

To be completely honest, I was a little disappointed with this month's Birchbox. From the vibrant box and card saying Let's Do This!, I assumed this box would be filled with bits and pieces to get me pumped up for the new year. Unfortunately, I discovered my box contains the usual product samples that are currently collecting in a drawer.

By no means was this a terrible box, I just wasn't thrilled with the contents. I received five products as per usual. Perlier Revitalizing Body Butter was the first item I tested out. This body butter does have a lovely scent but is somewhat sticky. I am tremendously picky when it comes to the maximum amount of stickiness a lotion/body butter can have before I dismiss it. This product is borderline. It will be on reserve for traveling or my handbag.

Balance Me Wonder Eye Cream was the next product I played around with. I have to say that I really enjoy this eye cream. One of the main features I like about this product is the packaging. It allows you to dispense the exact amount of eye cream you intend to use--often eye creams dispense far too much and I feel like I am wasting a lot of product. It works relatively well but mainly I am hooked on the packaging.

The Neil George Shampoo and Conditioner were the next items I spotted. I do not enjoy receiving shampoo and conditioner samples because subscription services tend to overdo on these types of samples and I have far too many little bottles or foil packets that I have no intention of using. I have not tried these and they will simply stay in a drawer until some distant date in the future when I need them for trip.

Finally, I spotted this little gem: the Coastal Scents Revealed Palette. This sample was sadly small but did offer four wearable shades. My mini palette came in the shade Latte with a few brown options that remind me of the Urban Decay Naked Basics Palette. Often I receive eyeshadow samples that are too bold for an everyday look but these four shadows are perfect. They will also be ideal for traveling with their tiny size. Although this sample is small, I am glad that I received it.

That was all from my January Birchbox.

What did you get in your Birchbox this month?

Must Make: Lemon Drizzle Cake

The bulk of the recipes and DIYs I make come from fellow bloggers and YouTubers. I am often amazed at how well these recipes and projects turn out. I want to start sharing things that I have tried and loved. Tonight was a prime example of why I should continue to test out new recipes.

This morning I went to a yoga class before work. Apparently I showed up on the right day because a fellow student brought in Meyer lemons from her tree to share with the class. If you've never had a Meyer lemon before, it is a hybrid of a lemon and an orange; it is essentially a slightly sweeter lemon. Without hesitation, I knew I needed to finally test out this recipe: I made the lemon drizzle cake from Vivianna Does Makeup. This is the best lemon cake you will ever try. I promise. She brought this recipe to us over the summer and I am so thankful that I finally tried it!

This is such an exceptional cake because it is incredibly moist yet the drizzle has a bit of a crisp texture. The flavors explode in your mouth and the Meyer lemon gives the cake a nice kick. It is decadent and filled with butter--just a warning. I recommend a small piece and storing the rest in an air tight container. This would be the perfect cake to serve at a tea party. I am planning to share a (small) piece with Joe tomorrow.

Have you tried this recipe before?
