Ipsy Glam Bag | February 2015

I feel like its been ages since I've written a post. Unfortunately I was struck with the stomach flu last week and spent my post-recovery time catching up on work. But I'm back! Today I am sharing the contents of my Ipsy Glam Bag. I was delighted with the products this month and I think you'll enjoy seeing what I received.

ModelCo Blush in Peach Bellini: A subtle peach to brighten up the cheeks. One of my favorite products to receive in subscription services is blush. A girl can never have too much blush. This particular shade is great for the fair girls out there.

'Tini Beauty Eyeshadow in Pearl Fizz: This eyeshadow is a beautiful champagne color. It is subtle enough for an everyday look yet could be included in a smokey eye. I appreciate the size of the sample, as eyeshadow samples greatly range in size in these types of subscriptions.

GLAMGLOW Brightmud Eye Treatment: I was ecstatic to find this little gem in my Ipsy bag this month. I have tried this eye treatment once before and loved it. It is a great way to depuff under the eyes before a special occasion (I used mine for Christmas day). I am saving this for some special day in the future.

Demeter Roll On Perfume Oil in First Love: As February is the month of Valentine's Day and love, this was the perfect product to find in my Ipsy bag. The scent is fresh, light and romantic. I am already fan of Demeter fragrances so I am excited to own this item.

City Color Creamy Lip Stain in Flirtini: The perfect pink gloss for the month of all things pink. City Color is a great and affordable brand and I always enjoy their products. This lip gloss was definitely a decent size and a good product.

I truly felt I got my moneys worth this month with Ipsy.

The Best Breakfast In Bed Recipes

Valentine's Day is on a Saturday this year. And it's tomorrow. For those of you who want to skip the lines, didn't get a chance to make a reservation or just want some one-on-one time, breakfast in bed is the way to go. This experience always feels like such a luxury to me. When do we have the time to cook a delicious breakfast and snuggle up with our loves ones? To make your breakfast in bed a reality, I am sharing some of my favorite Valentine's Day breakfast recipes with you!

Heart Pancakes | I love this because all you need is some pancake mix, food coloring and a heart cookie cutter! This is an incredibly easy recipe and you can definitely dress it up. I'd toss in some chocolate chips or raspberries.
Nutella Stuffed French Toast with Strawberries | Because who doesn't love Nutella?!
Egg In A Hole | I make these all the time for breakfast. Tip: you don't even need a biscuit cutter, I use a small glass!
Chocolate Raspberry Smoothie | For a healthy and delicious option!
Red Velvet Crepes | Crepes scream Valentine's Day and romance to me. Besides who would turn down red velvet anything?!

I hope you find a recipe you like!

What are your plans for the big day?

If you've never heard of Galentine's Day then you clearly aren't a true Parks and Recreation fan. This holiday was invented by Leslie Knope (aka Amy Poehler) and is celebrated with your gal pals the day before Valentine's Day. In the show, Amy's character throws an annual "Galentine's Day" party for her female friends (Season 2, episode 16--I know you were wondering).

This year my best friend and I are going to dinner and seeing Fifty Shades of Grey for our friend date. Yes, we bought our tickets last month; you can never be too prepared. Galentine's Day is a fun day in my eyes. It is a great way to celebrate your girlfriends and an excuse for a girls night out. My best friend and I always give each other a little gift on this day. This year I am giving her the Chalk Talk Mug (last item) and filling it with hazelnut coffee so she can start her mornings off right!

Do you celebrate Galentine's Day? If so, what are your plans?

Chocolate Raspberry Valentine's Day Smoothie!

As I may have derailed some New Year's Resolutions with my latest video, I thought I would share a healthier recipe today!

One of my favorite combinations around this time of year is chocolate and raspberry (or really any fruit). After I work out or when I need a mid afternoon pick-me-up, I often make a smoothie. I like to throw in some protein powder to make my smoothies a bit more filling. Here is my latest obsession:

Chocolate Raspberry Valentine's Day Smoothie

1 frozen banana (tip: slice & freeze the night before)
1/2 cup frozen raspberries (strawberries work great too!)
3/4 cup (6 fluid ounces) unsweetened almond milk (plain or vanilla)
1 Tbsp unsweetened cocoa powder (omit if using chocolate protein powder)
1 scoop vanilla protein powder (I use Tera's Organic Whey)

1) Combine all ingredients into a blender (I use a NutriBullet)
2) Blend until smooth
3) Pour into a glass & enjoy
OPTIONAL: add a fun straw (I like these heart straws!)

What is your favorite Valentine's Day treat?

January Beauty Favorites

This month I decided to share my January Favorites on my blog, instead of making a video. As you all know, I am currently on my #100DayBeautySpendingBan. If you haven't read about it, you can read all about it here. In addition to saving money, this venture has helped me shop my stash and rediscover products!

My first favorite is a perfume I re-fell-in-love with this month. Roses de Chloe has a beautiful, light rose scent. It is the ideal perfume for the moments when you want a sophisticated fragrance. I purchased this last spring and wore it frequently then promptly forgot about it in the fall. I am glad to be spritzing myself with this scent again!

The perfect base for the winter months. NARS Sheer Glow gives my face that boost its needs in order to not look dull during the colder moments. I have been steering away from the matte look as my skin is incredibly dry right now. This foundation brightens up my complexion and makes me look like I have seen the outside world.

NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer // Bourjois Chocolate Bronzer & Highlighter

I have truly found my all time favorite concealer. The NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer gives just enough coverage for any acne or redness without being too heavy. In my opinion, it is by no means too sheer either. I could easily dab this on a spot for a "no makeup makeup" look and it would blend seamlessly into my skin.

To add a bit of a glow, I have been reaching for the Bourjois Chocolate Bronzer & Highlighter Duo (gifted to me by my friend Rita). For those of us who are looking a little pale these days, this is perfect.

Tanya Burr Lip Gloss in Chic

I cannot rave enough about the Tanya Burr Lip Glosses. Chic was the shade I received from Rita and it has quickly become my everyday gloss. To be honest, I have steered away from lip gloss in the past few months as I always reach for my bold lips around the holidays but I forgot about the wonderful nature of lip glosses. They are easy to apply and give your lips such a lovely shine. I particularly love the Tanya Bur Lip Glosses because they are creamy in texture and almost melt onto your lips; bonus: they smell incredible!

Those are all my favorites for January!

Valentine's Budget-Friendly Date Ideas!

Valentine's Day is less than two weeks away, crazy right? It seems like we just spent far too much on Christmas presents and now there is another potentially pricey event right around the corner. Not to worry, there are so many budget-friendly options out there. Let's jump into some:

1. Breakfast in Bed: Two of my favorite things are breakfast and my bed so why not combine these into the perfect way to start your Valentine's Day. One of the greatest gifts is making a sweet gesture for someone you care about. This is perfect for the love of your life, your best friend or even a family member! Not sure what you make? I'd suggest heart-shaped pancakesstrawberry crepes, or heart-shaped eggs

2. Picnic in the Park (or your Living Room): Picnics always seem romantic to me. They are much more affordable than a five star restaurant yet infinitely more intimate. I recommend packing items that won't spoil easily, throwing in an inexpensive bottle of sparkling wine and picking up an indulgent dessert to split (chocolate cake perhaps?). If you aren't blessed my California sun, set up your picnic indoors, even by the fireplace would be lovely.

3. Geocaching: Joe and I love adventures and thus came across the concept of geocaching. Geocaching is essentially like a giant nationwide scavenger hunt. You can download the app here (it is free but there is an extended cheap version as well). The app uses your location to find caches nearby. You hunt for this box, container, film canister, etc. using the map and potentially hints on the app. The app gets you pretty darn close to the object. Once you find whatever it is, there is usually a list inside that you can sign that you found it. Sometimes there are tiny treasures and you can add your own if you wish! Think stickers or an old train ticket; little bits and pieces. It is a fun activity to do with a significant other or a friend.

4. Unique Movie Night: Sometimes all you want to do is relax after a long week, which is completely valid. I personally love watching movies at home with Joe. To change things up, we like to pop our own popcorn and come up with new flavors. My personal favorite: s'mores popcorn.

S'Mores Popcorn:
1/4 Cup Popcorn (before popping) OR 1 bag of microwavable popcorn
1/4 Cup Oil (omit if using microwavable popcorn)
1 Cup Mini Marshmallows
1 Cup Milk Chocolate Chips
1 Cup Golden Grahams Cereal
*Note: You may adjust the portions of ingredients as you please

1. Prepare popcorn (on the stove or in the microwave)
2. Melt milk chocolate chips on the stove; stir frequently
3. Combine popcorn, marshmallows, and golden grahams cereal into a bowl
4. Drizzle chocolate on top
5. Stir up the mixture and enjoy!

5. Hike Together: Sticking to those New Years Resolutions? Why not take a hike instead of a huge dinner! I know I mentioned mostly food-related options but I think taking a hike or a walk is a great bonding experience. If you are trying to be more active this year, it can be wonderful to take a long hike or walk with your Valentine. I always find that I have a deepest conversations when I'm on a hike and taking in the view.

I hope you've enjoyed my Valentine's Budget-Friendly Date Ideas!

I will be back with more Valentine's Day posts soon :)
