San Francisco Pride 2015

This weekend I went to Pride in San Francisco. I hadn't been for years and wanted to go before moving to New York.

I knew this would be an extra special event this year after the big news on Friday #lovewins

Joe and I went to the Pink Party on Saturday June 28th. It is essentially like a big street festival in the Castro District. Several blocks are closed off and people wonder the streets. This giant party has DJs at each corner and you can find many people dancing in bright outfits.

We picked up some treats from the Hot Cookie. SO GOOD! I highly recommend it if you're in the area.

This event was big but not overwhelming by any means. I saw tons of families and children [it was a safe but fun experience].

I am looking forward to seeing what pride events New York has!

What did you do this weekend?

How To Stay Hydrated This Summer [Video]

I am guilty of not drinking enough water year round. For this reason, I made one of my New Year's Resolutions to drink more water each day. I've tried to accomplish this goal since January and I've found some things that help me. I knew I had to share my tips and tricks since the weather is warming up. I hope my tips are helpful!

The Perfect Green Smoothie

The weather has been heating up recently and I want nothing more than a refreshing drink. Smoothies don't often fill me up so I have created a green smoothie that is packed with filling ingredients, nutrients, and flavor. The avocado and hemp seeds add some healthy fat and keep me full. The spinach is packed with vitamin a, manganese, folate and vitamin k. The fruit adds sweetness as well as fiber and additional vitamins. This smoothie is well rounded and is the perfect meal! Serve it in a hollowed out pineapple for that extra summer touch :)

Green Smoothie

1 Cup Frozen Mango
1 Banana
1/4 Cup Pineapple
2 Cups Frozen Spinach
1 Cup Almond Milk [or liquid of choice]
1/2 Avocado
1 Tbsp Hemp Hearts or Hemp Seeds

1) Combine all ingredients into a blender; I use a NutriBullet
2) Blend until smooth
3) Pour into a glass [or hollow pineapple!]

Pineapple Glass Directions:
-Slice off top of pineapple
-Slice a circle around the core
-Remove bulk of pineapple with a spoon
-Level the base of the pineapple with a knife [if necessary]

Please let me know if you try out this recipe!

Summer Wish List

Why is it that whenever I desperately need to purge my closet I rack up a list of "must have" items?! As I prepare for my move to New York, I have been doing fairly well at getting rid of clothing, accessories, books, and DVDs. I have actually even made some money in the process (video and/or blogpost coming soon!). But with the start of summer and the hot weather all I can think about is being poolside with cute summer items.

On days like today, I just want to head down to the beach with this Watermelon Bag packed to the brim with beach day essentials. Obviously that would include some Rose Gold Headphones for listening to music while I flip through the latest issue of Cosmo and occasionally look up to watch the waves crashing in.

For days when I don't feel like dealing with sand, I would opt for the pool and lounge on my Donut Float. In the evening, I could on this Pineapple Romper just in time for a backyard BBQ complete with burgers, corn on the cob, watermelon, and refreshing lemonade.

For slightly more dressed up date nights, I could pair this Grey Watch with a dress and blazer for a more polished look.

Sadly these additions probably won't be made to life with the chaos of work and packing (and purging) but a girl always dream!

What is on your summer wish list?

5 Ways To Spice Up Your Workout

It is easy to get in a rut, especially when it comes to working out. Now that summer is in full swing, we don't have any excuses for laying around. Here are some tips that will help you spice things up in the fitness department:

1. Take It Outside. With the nice weather, there is no excuse to avoid the outdoors. Summer is the perfect time to go for a run in that park by your house or go for a hike. Not only is working out in nature fun but it's also free (depending on the activity). Explore and enjoy the sunshine.

2. Groupon. One of my favorite ways to try new workouts or fitness classes is Groupon. I regularly check out yoga or pilates studios in my area through Groupon. It is an inexpensive way to test out [generally] pricier classes or gyms. I have even found some gym membership deals that come with a massage [score!].

3. YouTube. Another free option is right at our fingertips: YouTube. I am a huge fan of Yoga With Adriene. Her videos have classes for all levels of yogis and you can do them from the comfort of your own home!

4. Test Out New Gyms. Most gyms offer a few days or a week FREE! It can be fun to test out different gyms in your area. Maybe one gym has a pool or an awesome kickboxing class? Check their website to see if they offer a free trial pass.

5. Pinterest. Looking to focus on a particular area? Pinterest is filled with tons of great workouts. I am constantly finding new sets of exercises specific to different areas of the body [core, glutes, arms, legs]. They also have tons of HIIT [high intensity interval training] and plyometric workouts [think jump squats and burpees]. I recommend finding a few workouts you like and writing them down on cards. Each day randomly select a card and use that workout for the day.

Please leave any tips you have in the comments!

Sally Hansen Gel Manicure Starter Kit Review

If you've seen my nail polish collection, you know the extent of my polish obsession. I have every color and paint my nails twice/week. Or rather I used to. Last week I tried out the Sally Hansen Gel Manicure Starter Kit after noticing it while browsing nail polish. I had recently gotten a gel manicure for my birthday trip to Mexico and found it so useful to not have to worry about my nails chipping while on vacation. I wanted to start getting gel manicures on the regular but with my upcoming move to New York City, I knew that wouldn't be an option.

This kit is pricey ($60 from Ulta), however, it's no more than a couple gel manicures at the salon. Each manicure is supposed to last 14 days without chipping. This kit comes with the LED lamp, one gel base coat, one gel nail polish, one gel top coat, nail cleanser pads, mini nail tools and acetone. There are two nail polish shade options; I went with Shell We Dance (light pink).

I tested this out last Monday and it surprisingly did not take long at all. After removing my old polish, I used the tools provided to push back my cuticles and file my nails. Then I used the cleansing pad to remove any residue. I applied one layer of the base coat and put my fingers under the LED lamp; the lamp is on a 30 second timer so you don't need to time it yourself! You can only fit four fingers under the lamp at once so I did my thumb after my other fingers for each round of polish. I then moved on to the pretty pink polish and went through the same steps; I repeated this process for a second coat of my color. After I finished up with my color, I moved onto the top coat and went through the same steps. Once my nails were done, I used the same cleansing pad to wipe off any residual bits. I did one entire hand first before doing my other hand. All in all the process was easy and remarkably looked similar to what I'm used to getting at the salon.

My manicure did not chip at all over the next seven days (and I pick at my nails far more often than I'd like to admit). After the eighth day, I noticed one nail was starting to chip. I was actually able to pull off all the nail polish and didn't need any acetone (not sure if that's a good thing but it was obviously easier on my end). My nails were far less damaged than when I got them professionally done so I appreciated that aspect of this manicure.

All in all: two thumbs way up! I am really glad I purchased this kit and I plan to use this a lot in New York, especially when I don't have a lot of time to do my nails. I only wish that there were more color options available. Also I don't know if I can use other brands with this kit (OPI has some nice gel colors). If you know, please share that information with me!

Have you tried this kit? What are your thoughts?
