August Goals

I cannot believe that August is almost upon us! So much will be changing for me this month. For this reason, I find it particularly crucial to share some goals for the month.

Move To New York! Ok this might be an obvious one because I have a plane ticket but I still wanted to include it (mainly because I'm excited!)

Vlog One Second Every Day I want to create another monthly mini vlog: My August In 31 Seconds, just as I did for May. I plan to share it on my second channel at the beginning of September.

Enjoy The Bliss Of Engagement When I told my friends and family about the proposal, everyone immediately asked all the standard questions. Have you set a date?! Where will you get married?! However one [recently married] friend simply said "enjoy the bliss of engagement". That comment stuck with me as I realized I don't need to plan every little detail right now. Joe and I are  doing just that. We are spending tons of time together just doing the things we love and enjoying each others company. Yes we are having an engagement party soon and yes I keep checking the guest list to see who has RSVPed but I am also taking time to celebrate Joe. And pinning all the gorgeous wedding dresses I can find.

Budget I haven't had to stick to a strict budget in the recent years. Now that I am embarking onto a great [and expensive] journey, I need to be on it. I will be using the Erin Condren budgeting book and I'm currently listening to an audiobook about finances.

Meet New People This may not happen so much this month as I won't be moving until the second half of August but I really want to branch out and meet people. New York will be a whole new world and my graduate program will be filled with diverse individuals. I am on the shyer side so I really want to put myself out there and make some friends.

What are your August goals?

My Vanity Tour // Makeup Collection + Storage [Video]

I'll be the first to admit that I love watching makeup collection and storage videos on YouTube. I have been wanting to share my vanity and organization for quite some time but I am such a perfectionist. I wanted to wait until everything was organized just so and then I realized with my move that might not happen. Since I'll be moving to a much smaller space, I wanted to share my current setup now. Here is my vanity tour

I hope you enjoy it!

Sunglasses || Must Haves

1 // 2 // 3

Sunglasses are the best way to accessorize. To be honest I typically stick with my classic wayfarers but sometimes I like to branch out. These options are fun and perfect for the summertime. They are at the top of my wish list.

What sunglasses are on your wish list?

How To Declutter Your Closet

With my upcoming move to New York I've had to start decluttering my closet. Unfortunately [or fortunately] I cannot pack a ton. I can only really bring the items I know I will wear. Having to switch to a more minimalistic mindset has helped me pair down my wardrobe and get rid of excess. There are a few tricks that have helped me declutter my closet.

Try On Everything In Your Closet It is easy to see a piece and think you might wear it soon [even if you haven't worn it in a year]. If you force yourself to try on every item of clothing you own, you get a better sense as you whether or not you'll really wear this item again. I know I tossed some pieces simply because I didn't want to try them on [I knew I was over them]. You will also see how they fit--our bodies change. Certain clothing may not hang right anymore and needs to be removed from your closet.

Sort Your Wardrobe Into Three Piles/Bags/Boxes You should create three categories for yourself: keep, donate/sell/give away, and trash. For pieces you try on and know you absolutely want to keep, add them to the keep pile. For items you don't want but are in perfectly good condition, add them to the donate pile [you can either donate, sell, or give to your friends]. Finally any damaged items can be tossed. I recommend selling items first [if you want to put the time into it]. I sold some clothing at Crossroads in Berkeley. Remember that some secondhand stores only take in season items [I walked away with two bags of heavy winter clothing that they didn't want to buy]. Then I recommend offering clothing/shoes/bags to friends and/or family. You can donate whatever they aren't interested in. For items you can't bare to part with yet: store them for six more months [maximum] before reevaluating.

Does This Fit My Current Style? Make sure to evaluate if every piece fits your current style. In college I opted for brighter tops or short Forever 21 dresses for the bars. Nowadays my style has evolved and is more classic and a bit more conservative.

Do I Have Something Else Like This? I am guilty of having far too many LBD. I am always on the hunt for that perfect dress and now I have close to ten in my closet. I've cleared out a few that I've had for too long and are simply falling apart. Too many similar items of clothing? Donate, sell, or give them to friends.

Forget About What You Paid I often hold onto things because a) they were expensive or b) I haven't worn them [or at least not many times]. I've come to accept that these are terrible reasons for holding onto something that doesn't fit my needs or style. Remove anything from your closet that you don't see yourself wearing. You've already paid for it and you can no longer return it. It needs a new home.

I hope these tips are helpful if you are trying to declutter your closet.

Please leave any of your own tips in the comments!

I'M ENGAGED! This past weekend Joe and I visited San Luis Obispo to celebrate three years of dating. He took me out to dinner at a restaurant overlooking Shell Beach. The food was absolutely incredible. After dinner he took me on a sunset walk and proposed.

It was a truly magical moment that I will remember for the rest of my life. After this surreal moment we went to the drive in [one of our first dates & our one year anniversary date]. Although we spent most of the time gushing to family & friends about our engagement, we still enjoyed going to that drive in. We finished off the night by visiting the spot we first met.

Over three years ago, my friend/roommate Kate asked me to join her to meet up with some friends. I reluctantly agree, as I was already in my pajamas [lazy college student status]. To Kate's surprise, her friends had invited more people than she anticipated, including their friend Joe. We all spent the night laughing and playing games at Spike's bar. When Kate and I returned home she had a huge grin on her face and confessed that she thought Joe and I would make a cute couple. She and one of Joe's friends began setting up group activities and before long Joe and I were dating. On July 6th, 2012 our relationship became official. And the rest is history.

Now not only do I have that memorable date in my life but I have also have a new special date: July 11th, 2015---the day Joe asked me to marry him. There will be more to come on my proposal story & engagement weekend. I am considering doing a wedding Q&A and/or bridal series on YouTube. Please let me know what you think!

I hope you all are doing well :)

My Favorite Quotes

My life philosophy seems to be constantly changing. I tend to be inspired or moved by the events in my life at present. These quotes reflect where I am in this moment and what inspires me.

"Sometimes what you're most afraid of doing is the very thing that will set you free." -Robert Tew
This quote stuck out to me because I am at the beginning of a transition to a new stage of my life. I am moving across the country. I am pursuing an advanced degree. These are things I couldn't even have conceptualized a few years ago. Although I am nervous, I think this is the right move for me and the right time for me to do this.

"A flower does not think of competing with the flower next to it. It just blooms." -Unknown
This is a good reminder for me. I am a competitive person, even amongst my friends. I need to remember that we can all succeed and we need to focus on our own growth.

"I am in the right place, at the right time, doing the right thing." -Louise L. Hay
A good reminder that we are exactly where we are supposed to be. In this moment. Everything will work out as it is supposed to.

"Sometimes it's not the people who change, it's masks that fall off." -Unknown
I want to live an authentic life. I am trying to find myself in order to lead the life that will make me happy. People don't always change, they often just become who they truly are.

"There's no need to be perfect to inspire others. Let people be inspired by how you deal with your imperfections." -Robert Tew
I struggle to deal with my imperfections. I want my life to be perfect: my relationships, my work, my content. I am always judging myself and tend to feel guilty regularly. But I hope my flaws can inspire others.

What are your favorite quotes right now?
