How To Be Successful In College [Wellness/Part 2]

Welcome to part 2 of this series! Today I am focusing on wellness--a term that is often forgot about when determining how to be successful in college. When I say wellness I mean physically and mentally; we need to take care of our bodies and minds to perform our best. There are some obvious ways to stay fit: run, walk, bike, swim, etc. and we often forget the little things that have the most impact.

Set aside 'me' time everyday: This can be five minutes or an hour; this is whatever you can fit into your schedule. During this time you will do whatever makes you happy and relaxed. Maybe you like watching Netflix in your sweats. Maybe you like having a spa night and a bubble bath. Choose something that isn't related to school, work, or any stressful aspects of your life.

Take advantage of fitness classes: Often times your university recreation center will ofter group fitness classes at a free or reduced rate. My undergraduate university had an incredible recreation center (I know, I worked there!) and ofter tons of amazing group fitness classes at varying levels. Fitness classes can be incredibly pricey outside of this setting so take advantage while you can! This will give you the opportunity to try something new or turn working out into a social activity by going with friends.

Get outside: Go for a walk or hike outside, if the weather permits it. Taking a break from being inside and getting some vitamin D is good for your health. Just make sure to wear your sunscreen!

Journal: This doesn't have to be a journal in the traditional sense. Journal your thoughts, worries, and feelings. Whenever you feel overwhelmed or cannot quiet your mind, pour your thoughts onto a piece of a paper. This will get your worries out of your head and you can focus on other things [having fun, sleep, etc.].

I hope these tips were helpful. What are your tips related to wellness?
