Baby It's Cold Outside

Location: New York, New York

Outfit Details:

Coat [on sale!] [plus optionpetite option] | UGG Earmuffs | Primark Scarf [similar, on sale!] | Forever 21 Jeans | Sam Edelman Booties [on sale!]

Before I made my way west for the holidays, I endured some cold weather in New York. On a wim, Joe and I snapped some photos to show you what I actually wear when the weather is freezing.

Generally on chilly days, I wear my new winter coat [which is currently on sale!] with a sweater underneath. I need to keep my neck warm so I find wool or knit scarves are the best option. This scarf would be a great choice.

I recently picked up these earmuffs and they've made a huge difference in keeping me warm. I was already a big fan of UGG and these were an excellent addition to my accessories!

Finally: socks. In cold weather, I go for these Wigwam socks or these L.L.Bean camp socks. Both options keep my feet warm, even if the socks get wet from rain or snow.

As a California transplant, who is only experiencing her second winter, I'm aware that I don't know everything about cold weather clothing. BUT I do hope this is helpful if you are traveling to a colder climate this winter.

Top 10 Christmas Movies on Netflix

Since Christmas is less than a week away and (hopefully) we all have a little time off, I figured it would be the perfect time to share some of my favorite Christmas movies on Netflix. Holiday movies always get me in the festive mood and I tend to regularly have them on in the background when I'm wrapping gifts or baking cookies. If I'm leaving any good ones out, please let me know in the comments!

1. Serendipity
This is one of my all time favorite Christmas movies. Two people meet on Christmas Eve in a department store in New York City. Both are intrigued but decide to see if fate brings them together in the future. Years later, although both are engaged, they are still thinking of each other and wonder what could have been.

2. Christmas with the Kranks
For some reason, I adore this movie. It is a pretty cheesy holiday movie in which Jamie Lee Curtis and Tim Allen decide to skip Christmas, as their daughter won't be home for the holidays. The entire town is not so happy with this decision.

3. The Spirit of Christmas
I discovered this movie this year. Joe and I both enjoyed it, as a romantic comedy with more of a plot than most made-for-tv movies. When a lawyer must get an inn appraised and discovers a ghost comes to life in the inn for two weeks each year, what will happen?

4. 12 Dates of Christmas
If you need a light, fun Christmas movie, this one is perfect. The main character, Kate, is having an awful Christmas Eve but must re-live the same day twelve times, including a difficult blind date.

5. Radio City Christmas Spectacular
Although this may not be a movie, this is a fun and festive show to get you pumped this holiday season. Joe and I went to the show last year and absolutely loved it. Fortunately you don't have to live in New York City to see this energetic show!

6. The Santa Clause
I believe Netflix just added this throwback holiday movie. I remember seeing this one in theaters so I always have to watch it around this time of year.

7. Miracle of 34th Street
My mom showed me this classic as a child. This version is the remake from 1994 but is great. Santa Claus must prove he is real to a disbelieving little girl [who happens to be played by Mara Wilson, aka Matilda].

8. A Christmas Kiss
This romantic comedy is so cute and sweet. I highly recommend it for a girls night in. Wendy finds herself kissing a mysterious man on a elevator, only to find out he is her boss's boyfriend.  As you might imagine, things get complicated quickly.

9. White Christmas
If you want a true classic, check out White Christmas. This film came out in 1954 and has an incredible cast. I'm glad Netflix has a few true classics!

10. A Very Murray Christmas
This special came to Netflix last fall. It is a musical comedy film. Bill Murray has a case of the Christmas blues, as he worries no one will come to his show when he gets snowed in in New York City. There are a ton of guest appearances and it is an all around entertaining show.

I sincerely hope you have a wonderful Christmas and holiday season.

Casual Holiday Party Look

Location: New York, New York

Outfit Details:

Grey Sweater Dress [similarsimilar] | H&M Plaid Blanket Scarf [similar for $17!] | Over the Knee Sparkle Tights | Clarks Booties | MAC Lipstick

When you live in New York City, you need to get your holiday light and decoration fix from the gorgeous hotels in the city. My favorite spot is The Lotte Palace Hotel. They have a giant Christmas tree on the Madison Ave entrance (between 50th & 51st).

From this spot, you will also see the backside of the St. Patrick's Cathedral. My favorite view is from the stairs [the lefthand side staircase]--this will give you a perfect view of the back of the cathedral with the beautiful tree in front.

This outfit is perfect for any casual holiday party. Sweater dresses are ideal for any event with lots of delicious food. Sparkly over the knee socks will dress up the look enough for a party. Finally, top it off with a blanket scarf for some extra warmth and a festive touch.

I'm really enjoying this holiday season so far and I hope you are as well! I'd love to hear any fun plans you have in the comments.

If you are visiting the city at all, visit the Palace for some festive photos [Joe and I snapped our Christmas card photo here!].

Happy Holidays!

Fall to Winter Transition

Location: Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

Outfit Details:

Maison Jules Gingham Dress (similar) [33% off!] | Primark Sweater (similar) | Naturalizer Jamison Riding Boots [wide calf version] | Nordstrom Over the Knee Socks (similar) [50% off!] | Kate Spade Crossbody Bag | Too Faced Lipstick

Over Thanksgiving weekend, I took a day trip with some friends to Philly. Fortunately, Philly is only a couple hour drive from New York City so it is very do-able for a day trip! Joe and I arrived first and wondered around the German Christmas Market [located at City Hall this year]. City Hall is my favorite spot in this city. This building is gorgeous and so well maintained.

The weather was supposed to be in the low 50's [it ended up being a little colder!]. I wore a Maison Jules gingham dress [similar] with an oversized Primark sweater [similar]. I opted for my favorite riding boots for walking around all day with some over the knee socks. As per usual, I have my trusty cross body bag--I bought this before moving to New York and use it all the time.

I highly recommend visiting Philly during this time of year. Let me know if you'd like to see a post with my must visit spots!

Happy Holidays!
