Bedroom Organization Ideas for Small Apartments [Video]

Welcome to the weekend and my third installment in my organization series! If you haven't seen the kitchen video or living room video, I recommend checking those out as well. Today I'm sharing my tips for organizing the bedroom. Next Saturday I will finally be sharing the long-awaited apartment tour (I'm so excited about this!) but to prepare yourself, take a peak at my empty apartment.

I hope you find this video helpful!

Winter Wonderland in Central Park

On Saturday, we experienced our first blizzard in New York City (snow storm Jonas). We spent [almost] the entire day in our apartment aside from a trip outside to [briefly] see the snow [as demonstrated by the photo above]. It was such a crazy experience for me. I've been living in New York City for nearly six months and suddenly everything is covered in snow, no one was outside and everything was silent. It was a different world.

Yesterday we ventured over to Central Park. The snow was no longer falling and everyone was enjoying the park.

We wondered through the park--we watched children sledding, saw cross country skiers and had a little snowball fight.

We saw the frozen boat pond, near the Alice in Wonderland statue. This was so different from seeing it in the summer or fall.

Joe had a great time in the snow. For once the snow came to him and he didn't have to travel to it!

I hope that everyone on the East Coast is staying safe & warm.

How was your weekend?

Living Room Organization Ideas For Small Apartments [Video]

This is part two in my organization series. Today we are discussing organization ideas for the living room in small apartments. In part one, we discussed the kitchen. Next up will be the bedroom. Finally we will finish off this series with my New York City apartment tour. If you want to have a look at my empty apartment, I did a first look tour

I hope you find this helpful.

Do you have any other tips?

Chicago on Broadway | Playing Tourist

With our friend, Liz, visiting this past weekend, we knew we had to see a show. We ventured to TKTS [discount Broadway and Off Broadway show tickets] & opted to see Chicago

I have seen the movie and love it. It is definitely in my top ten favorite musicals. I wasn't sure what to expect from the show. We fortunately had pretty decent seats in the cozy theater on 49th.

I was blown away by the performance. Half the stage or so was devoted to the orchestra. The remainder of the stage was used strategically to tell the story of Chicago by the cast. All the cast members had amazing voices; Miss Sunshine and Mamma were particularly good. NFL legend Eddie George made his Broadway debut as Billy Flynn and, surprisingly, has an amazing voice!

The show was inspiring, creative, funny, and all around very well-done. I would highly recommend this show to anyone visiting New York City.

What is your favorite musical?

DIY Bar Cart [Video]

Hi everyone! I recently discovered how expensive bar cart cans be so Joe and I decided to make our own. Ours cost us about $40 [compared to a similar one we found for $200!].

This was a fun project that didn't take too long and has jazzed up our space.

Have a nice weekend!

2016 Reading Challenge: 16 Books in 2016

In the past year, I struggled to get as much reading in as I'd like. This year I am making it a priority to read more. I am challenging myself to read 16 books in 2016

Here are the books I will be reading [in no particular order]:

6. Do Less
15. Spark Joy

Between books sitting in my Amazon wish list and recommendations online, I had no trouble coming up with 16 books I want to read this year. Please let me know if you'd like to see reviews on any particular books or a best books of 2016 post at the end of the year.

If you want to read these books along with me (any or all!), please let me know! I would love to discuss any or all of these books.

Are there any other books I must read?

What I Wore On New Year's Eve

Happy New Year! I was very last minute when selecting a New Year's Eve outfit this year [as in the night before]. We went to a New Year's Eve party at a neighborhood bar.

Joe was kind enough to snap some photos of me near our apartment [we live on the Upper East Side, near the East River] before we went out.

I chose this subtly sparkly number from H&M [here is a similar one]. I paired this dress with some sheer black tights.

To keep it comfortable for the night, I opted for these booties. They look polished but are a much better option than heels.

Wishing you a happy new year!

What did you get up to this New Year's Eve?

My 2015 Recap

2015 was a whirlwind for me. The best possible whirlwind. I got engaged and moved across the country--minor events, right? I am so thankful for the year that I've had & want to reflect on the significant moments from each month in the past year.

January: I am ready for a fresh start and a new year. I take on new responsibilities in my job and submit the bulk of my graduate school applications.

February: I surprise Joe and take him on a trip to Seattle for Valentine's Day weekend [better known as Presidents Day weekend].

March: March is less eventful for me. I do a lot of organization and create an Easter brunch for the first time.

April: I am accepted into my first choice graduate program and decide to accept the offer!

May: Joe, Aimee [the best friend], Steven [Aimee's boyfriend] and I travel to Puerto Vallarta for my birthday. After years of wanting to visit Mexico, I finally get the opportunity to go. We stay at the most amazing resort. Highlight of the trip: holding a baby tiger

June: I get more serious about my blog and officially choose the domain name: Modern Mollie

July: Joe proposes to me. Enough said.

August: I leave my job after almost two years and I move to New York City. It isn't easy [I had a stress fracture & moved into a fifth floor walk up] but it is so worth it!

September: I start graduate school in New York. Joe visits New York for his birthday while searching for a job.

October: I attend Simply Stylist [a blogger conference] and feel like a true blogger for the first time. Joe moves to New York! We are now living together for the first time.

November: Aimee visits and we have a blast. Joe and I spend our first Thanksgiving away from our family. One of my friends is gracious enough to invite us to her Thanksgiving in Pennsylvania

December: I participate in vlogmas and fall in love with vlogging. I also take my first set of finals in graduate school and complete my first semester. We enjoy all the Christmas activities in New York. Fortunately, at the last minute, we get to go home for Christmas and see our families. It is the best way to round off a great year.

All in all, it was a pretty memorable year. I don't think 2016 can beat the life changes but I hope to really work on myself. It will be a year of growth.

What were your 2015 highlights?

2016 New Year's Resolutions

Happy New Year! It is strange to me what a different place I was in last year when I was writing this post for 2015. 2015 was incredible for me--I got engaged, moved across the country to New York City, started graduate school, moved in with my best friend & went on a ton of adventures. This year I want to focus more on myself--my health [mental & physical], my dreams, and what makes me happy. I still want to help others and support my friends & family--don't get my wrong--but I just need to give myself a little more attention than I did in the past year. Without further ado, here are my 2016 New Year's Resolutions:
  • Drink More Water: This remains a constant struggle. I always think if I buy a cute water bottle I'll drink more but it doesn't happen! This resolution is at the top of my list for this year! I need to get up to eight cups each day.
  • Track Marcos: Over the past few years I've gained a bit of weight. It is definitely something personal and uncomfortable for me to talk about but it's very important. Last year I accomplished a lot externally and this year, I want to focus more on myself (aka my health). Joe and I both followed IIFYM for one month before Mexico. I felt amazing and saw results. Of course our diets were all over the place while traveling and never got back to this plan. My goal is to stick with IIFYM for three months and (hopefully) the whole year. I'm considering creating a separate Instagram account or something to help myself. Any thoughts?
  • Workout 4x/week: Working out used to be a no-brainer for me but since moving to New York City, getting to the gym isn't as straightforward. I am slowly getting back into it so I think four workouts/week would be a great goal! I'm also walking around a ton here so I don't feel the need to go five or six times per week like I used to!
  • Treat Blogging & YouTube Like a Job: This may seem silly but for the first year or so of creating content, I felt like I wasn't doing anything. I've always wanted to create a successful blog and channel but I've lacked the confidence. Once I moved to New York City, I slowly became more confident and consistent. I want to set aside more time to work on improving my blog, channel, and content. I want to learn more and create more content that people enjoy and have them coming back for more!
  • Organize The Apartment: Living in a small apartment is definitely more challenging with two people. Joe was sort of thrown in after I was settled and started a new job immediately. As I have time over winter break, I want to thoroughly organize the apartment. I am starting a series on my channel to break down each area and make it more livable. The first video will be up tomorrow!
I am hoping these resolutions are a little more specific than last year and I will be coming back to this post to make sure I am staying on top of them.

What are your New Year's resolutions?

Happy 2016!
