The Importance of White Space

via Google

From time to time, I get weighed down with life and forget to give myself the creative space to breathe. Over the past week, I haven't shared a single thing on my blog or YouTube channel. This was simply because I needed some white space. To be more specific, I needed some time to get inspired by life--I was in the midst of midterms last week and didn't seem to have an ounce of creativity flowing through me. I decided to take a break. I didn't whip up a blog post or video just to put something out, I just took a genuine break. And it felt amazing.

Although I would like to prepare better for these instances [by having content ready-to-go], I am glad I listened to my needs and took a pause. I think in the future I'll plan ahead to take these sort of breaks and I think it'll have a great impact on the content I produce.

I've listened to countless creative individuals who spoke about the importance of living life to have experiences to speak or write about. How can I give advice or share what I'm loving without taking the time to experience it?

I encourage you to do the same. Take time for yourself. Give yourself permission to switch off your mind for a bit. Breathe. You'll be all the better for it.

What are your thoughts on creative space or white space?

New York City Coffee & Tea Festival [Video]

Over the weekend Joe and I headed to Brooklyn for the New York City Coffee & Tea Festival. I'm a  huge lover of both coffee and tea so I figured this would be the perfect Sunday afternoon event for us.

We noticed there were, by far, a lot more tea companies scattered amongst the four rows of vendors. Everything from chai to herbal to green tea was available from companies all over the world.

One of the best things I picked up was peanut butter cup coffee from New York Gourmet Coffee--they had all sorts of amazing flavors (even red velvet cake!).

Come along with Joe and I to the New York City Coffee & Tea Festival!

Blackberry Lemon Oat Muffins

Hey everyone! Welcome to a new week. A few days ago, my good friend Leah sent me a blueberry oat muffin recipe. I made a few changes [to incorporate ingredients I had on hand] and came up with an incredible blackberry lemon oat muffin recipe!

If you try out this recipe, please share a photo with me on Instagram and/or Twitter!

St. Patrick's Day Recipes

Last year, Joe and I made our first St. Patrick's Day feast. We did a quick search and came up with three recipes that all turned out extremely well [in fact we are making them again this year since my parents are visiting!].

I started out with Beef and Guinness Stew. This is a wonderful hearty stew but be warned: it does take about three hours to cook. For a side, we opted to make Irish Soda Bread. Neither of us had ever made it before and it was surprisingly simple. It paired well with the stew also we tried some bread with homemade olallieberry jam--it was incredible. For dessert, you can never go wrong with brownies. We made Guinness Brownies [Bailey's brownies would be good too!]. To be honest, it was a little too much food [the brownies were rich] but it would be fun for a large group AND you'll have tons of leftovers.

The weather is a little all over the place this week in New York City. I'm hoping to take my parents to the St. Patrick's Day Parade & we're going to start the stew and Irish soda bread in the afternoon. Nothing crazy.

Do you have any plans for St. Patrick's Day?

Cocoa Brown 1 Hour Tan Original Mousse Review

New York has slowly been transitioning into spring and everyone is loving it. I wore a sundress for the first time in months last week and realized my pale legs were probably blinding people so I took action. I haven't used self-tanner since last summer and was fortunate enough to be a sent a tanner that recently launched in the U.S.

Cocoa Brown 1 Hour Tan Original Mousse was created by Irish entrepreneur, Marissa Carter, in 2012. After much success, the product was brought to the United States this past fall. The mousse varies in color, depending on how long you leave the product on before showering. One hour will produce a light glow, two hours will produce a medium glow, and three hours will produce a dark glow.

I applied this product before bed, gave it ample time to dry and left the product on over night. I noticed an immediate change in my skin tone after applying the mousse. After an hour the results were quite subtle and I went to bed.

The next morning I noticed a significant change in my color yet my glow was still natural.

Next morning

I was very impressed with the product--the only imperfections were of my own doing [forgetting to do my feet--it's been a while since I've tanned & applying too much around my knees--again it's been a while!]. Overall I highly recommend this product. It is easy to apply, works quickly, and looks natural. I recommend applying this product with a mitt; after using the mitt, I rinsed it and cleaned it with baby soap [what I use to clean my makeup brushes] and it was as good as new. The tan lasts around five days and is a steal at $13.99!

Have you tried this product? If so, what are your thoughts?

Thank you, Cocoa Brown, for sending me this product to test out!

My Current Evening Skin Care Routine

1 // 2 // 3 // 4

Throughout high school and college I never thought much about skin care. I wore sunscreen at the beach and used an acne wash at night but I also sometimes (gasp) slept in my makeup when I was feeling lazy. As I entered my early twenties, I started to realize how important skin care is and why it is worth the investment. Obviously our skin is our foundation--with better skin, we worry less about makeup or wrinkles. Over the past few years, I've experimented with tons of skin care products to create my perfect skin care routine. This changes based on the season and my location--I have completed changed my products now that I live in New York City. Let's discuss what I'm currently using:

With the dry, cold air still looming, I am sticking with my winter skin care routine for the moment. I am aiming for intense moisture to combat premature aging. After removing my makeup & cleansing my skin (these products vary based on what's in my bathroom), I apply my favorite face oil to my face and neck. I give this a few minutes to soak in [usually I brush my teeth during this time]. Then I apply one pump of this incredible face cream--it dispenses the perfect amount when you press down and allows you to keep the product hygienic and avoid wasting any face cream. Next I dab a bit of eye miracle on my under eye area--this stuff has the consistency of vaseline and works like magic! Finally I swipe this eyelash serum along my dry upper lash line on each eye. I want to thicken and grow my lashes prior to the wedding because I sleep with an eye mask and would ruin eyelash extensions! So far this product seems to be doing the trick [it's been almost a month].

Since I've started this routine, I no longer wake up with dry, dull skin. Fortunately I feel refreshed and no longer need any products [besides moisturizer with SPF] in the morning.

What are your holy grail skin care products?

Exploring DUMBO, Brooklyn

Over the weekend, Joe and I explored DUMBO, Brooklyn for the first time. We absolutely loved wondering around, seeing the views, and walking across the Brooklyn Bridge. Follow along on our adventure to see the exact spots we visited. I highly recommend making a day trip out of exploring Brooklyn if you are ever visiting New York City (or if you live here!).

Please let me know how you like this vlogging format--I personally liked just sticking to sharing the highlights of our weekend (as opposed to every little thing we did).

I hope you enjoy it!
