Macy's Friends & Family Sale!

Now through May 2nd, Macy's is having their Friends & Family Sale. This means you can save 25%--use the code FRIEND online for 25% off your purchase and free shipping over $25!

I ordered these sandals last night--not only are they on sale but they still qualify for the additional 25% off AND free shipping! This would pair perfectly with this shirtdress and it would also be so comfortable in the summer. This floral dress would also cute with the sandals!

Tassels are a trend I'm loving this spring. These tassel earrings are just too cute to pass up! Another trend I can't get enough of right now is lace-up flats. Adorable and practical.

I love sales because they are the perfect time to get that designer handbag you've been eying. Last year I picked up this black crossbody--I use it all the time around the city. I am also really digging this Kate Spade handbag that comes in a range of gorgeous colors.

Another way you can save some cash is by shopping through Ebates. This online rebate program gives you a percent back for purchases at a wide range of retailers. Right now, you can get 8% cash back at Macy's [several stores are doing double cash back right now for Mother's Day]. You can sign up here and start saving right away!

What will you pick up from the Macy's Friends and Family Sale?

Brooklyn Botanic Garden

On Sunday, Joe and I visited the Brooklyn Botanic Garden. This was our first time going back together since my [undergraduate] college graduation trip to NYC in 2013! I visited a little over a month ago when my parents were in town but everything was just starting to bloom. Now everything is full bloom--from tulips to cherry blossoms--and it couldn't be a better time to visit.

If you saw my recent video, you'll know that Joe and I had to cancel our trip to the Cherry Blossom Festival in Washington D.C. [due to a work conflict]. Although this wasn't quite the same, it was exciting to see so many cherry blossoms in bloom at the Brooklyn Botanic Garden.

The weather has been kind of incredible recently in the city and I've been taking full advantage by wearing sun dresses. I recently picked up this dress for my upcoming trip to Italy--I'm loving off the shoulder dresses right now and this is perfect for travel because it is so lightweight! It was also a steal at under $30 [important travel tip: bring less expensive pieces--you could lose or damage an item while traveling]. I'm glad I'm already making use of it before my trip!

During our trip to the botanic garden, we gushed over the cherry blossoms and explored the bonsai trees [shown in my NYC travel guide]. Fun fact: the Brooklyn Botanic Garden is actually free on Tuesdays and 10 AM-12 PM on Saturdays. ALSO if you have a NYC ID you can get a free one year membership; ID NYC has a lot of awesome benefits and I can do a separate post on that if anyone is interested. Joe and I signed up for our free memberships on Sunday and can now come any day for free and attend any member events for free! There is even an event happening this weekend: the Sakura Matsuri Festival [Japanese festival] so this would be another great time to visit!

Overall we really enjoy visiting the Brooklyn Botanic Garden and cannot wait to head back!

Dress // Boots [some colors and sizes are on sale right now!]

Also a sweet girl saw us taking photos and offered to take one of us together! I love how much of the cherry blossom goodness she captured in the background.

Have you ever visited the Brooklyn Botanic Garden? Would you want to visit in the future?

Current Read: You are a Badass

This year I set myself a goal of reading 16 books in 2016. Fortunately I had a mountain of recommendations by the end of 2015 and created a fantastic reading list for myself. I've recently found myself needing a bit of motivation. Call it the 20 somethings' downfall--I'm just trying to figure out who I am, cliche right?

I'm heading into the realm of self-love and empowerment. I figured why not start with You are a Badass. I am currently about halfway through and am really enjoying it. The author, Jen Sincero, brings you in by showing how relatable she is. She goes on to discuss how you are capable of anything you set your mind to--if we change our negative self-talk, we can accomplish anything. Her writing does have a new age vibe [something I don't entirely connect with] but her overall message is powerful. This book is definitely ideal for that 20 something, trying to figure out his or her life.

Although I don't have much experience with self-improvement books, I do have to say that this is a good one. For anyone who needs some motivation or improve their self-confidence: check out this book!

Have you read You are a Badass? What are your thoughts?

Why Morning Routines Matter

One of the things I'm trying to do this year is be as transparent as possible. On that note, there is an area of my life that is seriously lacking: my morning routine. Growing up I always had to get up early and get ready for school but once I hit my college years, my schedule was all over the place. After graduating from college, I got my first professional job with a crazy schedule. This completely threw off my mornings and how I spent my days. Now that I am back in [grad] school and have another wacky schedule, it is starting to bum me out that I don't have a consistent morning routine.

Anyone with an odd schedule or who works from home knows how difficult it is to be consistent. I know that I may very well have a regular work schedule in the future but for now, I want to create some consistency in my life. It has only been recently that I've learned how important a morning routine is. I took to the Internet to learn why a morning routine is so important. Here's what I found out:

Successful people have morning routines: according to, famous and successful individuals [even presidents] dedicate a lot of their success to their morning routines. Apparently finding a ritual that motivates you is crucial.

Having a morning routine will improve your health: waking up early and having a set routine will give you time to exercise, make a healthy breakfast, and help you have energy all day long. In turn, this will improve your overall health [we all know the benefits of exercise and proper nutrition].

You will accomplish more throughout the day: I think this quote by Drew Canole really sums it up perfectly, "how you start your day is how you start your life." Therefore if you sleep in and rush out the door or don't take the time to make a healthy breakfast or exercise or meditate or whatever helps you, you are set up for a stressful day and are more likely to make poorer choices and be less productive.

Having a morning routine will improve your confidence and mental health: from what I've gathered, having a morning routine will improve your mental state and in turn, increase your self-confidence. I really like this quote by Henry Ford, "whether you think you can, or you think you can''re right." This could not be more accurate. Creating a morning routine will make you feel successful and less stressed at the start of your day and will lead you to have an overall better day. This will increase your self-confidence.

As you can see, establishing a meaningful morning routine is so important for our well-being. I encourage you to create one [if you have not already].
