Apple Hill

Apple Hill has been on my list since we moved to California. Joe and I LOVED visiting apple orchards and getting cider donuts on the East Coast. We knew we wanted to pick apples, visit a pumpkin patch and scoop up all the delicious baked goods. I visited their website, which has a printable map. I made a list of stops and created an itinerary (further out to closest farms).

Although we made a day trip out of Apple Hill, it is a bit far from the Bay Area (2.5 hours from San Jose) so it could be nice to stay over night in a bed and breakfast. To make the most of our day, we hit the road early and grabbed coffee. On the way home, we broke up the trip by stopping in Sacramento to get dinner with Joe’s grandpa.

Cider Donut

Rainbow Orchards

We hit up this spot solely for this hot apple cider donuts. They did not disappoint. All donuts are made to order so they are fresh and hot. They are light, crispy and covered in cinnamon sugar. Rainbow Orchards also sells pumpkins, apples, pie, and jam.

Goyette’s North Canyon Ranch

Apple picking was one of our musts for the trip. We stopped at Goyette’s North Canyon Ranch, which is a cozy apple orchard, tucked in the middle of Apple Hill. They have bags and boxes to fill with apples. They hand you a pick and send you on your way. We noticed a few different varieties on apples. It isn’t a huge place but it was perfect for picking a few apples.

Apple Hill Cider

North Canyon Cider Co

This small spot has four different flavors of hard cider. They offer free tastings and you can grab a pint to enjoy on their porch. Joe and I liked the semi sweet and pineapple ginger.

Pumpkin Patch

High Hill Ranch

High Hill was, by far, the busiest farm we visited. They had a huge craft fair, a pond, BBQ, a fudge shop, and farm store. Parking was tough so I recommend visiting High Hill early in the day.

Apple Pie

Boa Vista Orchards

We stopped here on the way out of town to pick up a bunch of goodies to take home. Joe and I grabbed a fresh apple pie to bring his grandpa. Boa Vista has a huge farm store with produce, baked goods, hard cider, wine and pumpkins. They have free cider samples and a pumpkin patch. Make sure to check in on Yelp to get a free small bottle of cider.
