Napa

Napa never ceases to amaze me. This is one of my favorite places in Northern California. Napa Valley (and the surrounding area) is particularly nice to visit in the spring, before the heat comes. The Napa mustard fields are one of the highlights of spring. Right now, they are in bloom and beautiful.

Joe and I spontaneously took a day trip last weekend. We live in San Jose, which is about an hour and a half south of Napa. I got recommendations from a friend for the best mustard field spots. Drive along Hwy 29, between Oakville and Rutherford, for the best locations for photos. The most densely populated field is just north of Oakville Grocery. The best winery for mustard is Kelleher Family Vineyard. If you’re looking to wine taste, I shared some of my favorite wineries a couple years ago.

What else does Napa have to offer? Napa Valley has some incredible restaurants and cafes. Bouchon Bakery (Yountville) is known for their massive macaroons. We visited for the first time last weekend and it was definitely worth the 30 minute wait. Their eclairs and croissants are also delicious. Head down the street to Restoration Hardware for lunch or dinner. The food is good but the ambiance is everything. There are so many options between Napa, Yountville, St. Helena, and Calistoga. If you have any favorite spots, please let me know!
